Ochiltree to Host Renewable Energy Virtual Reality Event
The Maidsafe STEM Centre in Ochiltree will host a two-day virtual reality event focused on renewable energy on 13 and 14 October. The sessions are open to young people and the wider community.
Funded by Statkraft, the interactive project will show how electricity travels from renewable energy generation through the grid and battery storage systems to homes, schools and businesses.
The experience will explain how wind-generated electricity enters the National Grid. It will also introduce Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and explain how they can store electricity and help balance supply and demand.
Using virtual reality technology, participants can explore the relationship between renewable energy generation, electricity networks, and battery storage. The activity has been designed to make the subject accessible to young people and the wider community, helping visitors learn about renewable energy technology and its role in everyday life.
The project will also introduce a further virtual reality initiative currently being developed at the Maidsafe STEM Centre, with support from Statkraft.
The event is open to all community members. Organisers are encouraging people interested in renewable energy, technology and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects to attend.
The Renewable Energy and Battery Storage VR Experience will run from 10am to 2pm on Monday, 13 October, and Tuesday, 14 October, at the Maidsafe STEM Centre in Ochiltree.
